Title: Research internship: Individual participant data meta-analysis on cardiac rehabilitation in Coronary Heart Disease

Cardiovascular disease (CVD), including coronary heart disease (CHD), is a leading cause of death worldwide. To prevent future events in patients with previous CVD, cardiac rehabilitation (CR) is often advised. Although CR is commonly applied in patients with CHD, the link with clinical endpoints (i.e. all-cause and cardiovascular mortality, hospitalization) remains to be determined. Moreover, subgroups have not been analyzed (sex, age etc.).

This project is a meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials in patients with CHD using individual participant data (IPD) of cardiac rehabilitation (CaReMATCH), and is an international collaboration between world-leading research groups (Nijmegen, Liverpool, Glasgow). Original data from >12 publications containing over 8,000 individuals with CHD is used. Depending on your personal interest and the research question of interest, mediation and/or survival analyses may be performed. You’ll be supervised by experts in the field of cardiac rehabilitation (prof. dr. Taylor, University of Glasgow) and cardiac physiology (prof. dr. Thijssen, Radboudumc). Epidemiology-related and daily supervision will be provided by Niels Stens, junior epidemiologist and PhD candidate at the department of Physiology.

The present project provides an unique opportunity to aid within one of the largest and most promising studies related to cardiac rehabilitation. This internship is especially suited for those with a primary interest in (cardiac-) epidemiology.

Interested candidates are invited to contact Niels Stens (along with CV) via niels.stens@radboudumc.nl
